How does 2FA work?

Two steps. One secure login.

Enter password

Open authenticator app

Open the TOTP app on your smartphone. A new 6-digit code is generated every 30 seconds.

Enter one-time code

Enter the 6-digit code from the app. Done - you are securely logged in. (Second factor)

Log in to the eclipso desktop version
Go to Settings › Two-Factor Authentication
Click the “Enable” button
Install a TOTP authenticator app on your smartphone
Scan the QR code in the app or enter the secret key manually
Two-factor authentication is now active

You can use any TOTP-compatible authenticator app. We recommend:

Google Authenticator - iOS & Android (free)
Microsoft Authenticator - iOS & Android (free)
Authy - iOS, Android & Desktop (free, cloud backup)
FreeOTP - iOS & Android (open source)
2FAS Auth - iOS & Android (open source, free)

Each one-time code (TOTP) is only valid for 30 seconds. After that, a new code is automatically generated. This high time-sensitivity means even an intercepted code cannot be reused. The codes are generated locally on your device - no internet connection required for the app to work.

Important: If you delete the authenticator app or lose your device, you will lose access to your eclipso account. Store the secret key (shown during setup) in a secure location as a backup, or note the backup codes. If you are locked out, please contact our eclipso support team.

Yes. The 2FA code is currently required when logging in via the desktop web interface. The eclipso mobile app uses a separate token-based authentication system and benefits from the PIN protection and secure app sessions available there.
